self-proclaimed nerd

Warning: I'm about to dedicate a whole post to a book.

I just finished reading Unlocked by Karen Kingsbury.  I know I started it a really long time ago, but a) I'm a slow reader & b) I was savoring it.

This is what you need to know about me:  I learn & grow more from reading Christian fiction than I do the big hit you-must-not-be-a-real-Christian-if-you-didn't-read-this-book books.  You know what I'm talking about.  Captivating, Blue Like Jazz, Lady in Waiting, Wild at Heart, Radical, Irresistible Revolution, Crazy Love.  Don't get me wrong - I'm sure they're fabulous books.  And I've even read parts of most of them (& maybe even one whole one).  But I just can't do it.  If you read it & take notes, I'd love to read your notes.  But I just can't handle the books usually.  And it makes me feel like a heathen.

That being said, I love Karen Kingsbury.  Even when some most of her books become predictable (possibly because I've read so many), I love her.  Her characters become a part of my life (so much so that I'm often known to confuse my life/my friends' lives with characters from the books...sad, I know).

Plus, I'm weird about reading.  I L-O-V-E to read, but I'm so very picky.  Once I get on one author, or even one series, I can't read anything else.  And then after the end of a series, I go into a bout of depression.  Okay, not really, but kind of.  Karen has her Redemption series, which flows into the Firstborn series, which then goes to the Sunrise series, which then [sort of] continues in the Above the Line series.  So basically...she meets most all my literary needs.  And what she doesn't, Francine & Erynn (& occasionally another author) take care of.

Ok, but back to the book.  I'm not going to tell you much (in most situations, I despise being told about a book...if I wanted to know about it, I'd read it), but I am going to tell you enough to make you want to read it.  It's the story of an 18-year-old autistic boy whose life is changed through his love of music.  I love the way the book gives you a window into his head & heart.  Okay, no more.  But read it.  And tell me what you think.  Seriously.
