one. Friday night I didn't do much, but I did make this new journal that I think is my favorite yet.
two. Saturday morning was beautiful.
I woke up early to go with church people to a town with lots of refugees to help sign kids up for the Upward basketball program that the church does there. I met kids from Malaysia, Burma, the Congo, Ethiopia, Eritrea, & more. The neighborhoods are so diverse.
One girl that I was with most of the day had just moved here a few months ago. She spoke one sentence of English. The only way we found out her name, age, etc, was because of a volunteer who was there working with her family when we knocked on their door. Even though she understood nothing we said, she was so excited to go with us. I can't imagine having the courage to go off with a bunch of people who didn't even speak my language. But, she did...& didn't look like she'd ever seen a basketball before, so that was fun. Being the basketball star that I am, I taught her how to dribble & shoot. Poor kid, with me as her teacher, she's not off to a good start. But her face just lit up when she finally made the basket & she was so excited!
three. Saturday night a bunch of us got together for snacks & games at a girl's house. Catch Phrase with a group of about 20 people = lots of fun & laughter.
four. Sunday: church, pool, church, & painting. Decided to trace the pattern from my rug onto the window I'm wanting to paint. It's turning out to be a lot more difficult than I thought...
To sum up this weekend: I knew when God moved me here that He would provide a church & friends & everything that I needed. But I feel like it all came together this weekend. Finally spending time with people outside of Sunday school & church really allowed me to get to know them, & I love that.
You are very talented! I love the journal. And the verse is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the window when you're done painting it. I'm sure it will be amazing.
Have a wonderful Monday.
