21???

Today my brother turns 21.

This past weekend, we celebrated his birthday.

I even managed to paint something for him that he liked.  Boys are intimidating to paint for...especially this one.  He's surprisingly picky.

I often feel sorry for people who don't have siblings.  Sometimes my ears get tired of the constant flow of sports statistics that he so willingly provides...but I wouldn't trade him.

sixteeeeen candlessss

April 25, 1995 was a very special day.
This girl was born.

My favorite 16-year-old, hands down.

I've known McKinlie for years.  Actually I used to babysit her.  And my most vivid memory of those times: she wanted to play Uno [a game that I hate] with a hand of 1000[ish] cards instead of 7.  Just because she didn't want to go to bed.  Guess she thought I was pretty cool to hang out with back then, too.

And then there was the gap when we didn't really know each other, or even see each other, for years.

And then when my family changed churches, McKinlie was back in my life.  We went together on a mission trip this summer.

outdoor showers + wind + shower curtain blowing off + McKinlie as a lifesaver + sleeping on neighboring cots for a week
= inseparable.

I love this girl so much & love having a front-row seat to what God is doing in her life.

Happy Birthday [again, & a few days late], McKinlie!

I love 3-14-89.

Twenty-two years ago today, one of the greatest things happened.  This girl was born...& nineteen years later, I met her & she made my life brighter.

Just a few things I love about Cait, things she has taught me, favorite memories, etc.

one. She is one of the most faithful people I know.  Amidst trials like I've never known, I've never seen her faith shaken.

two. She cares deeply about good hair, & taught me the fine art of teasing.

three. She let me go to Mexico with her & see a HUGE part of her heart.

four. Even though the first time we met was probably extremely awkward, she still let me into her life.

five. She shares her friends with me.  Some of the most wonderful people have come into my life that way.

six. She thinks I'm funny.  And I think she's funny.  And other people probably don't think either of us are.  But we have the same sense of humor, so at least we have each other.

seven. She loves music as much as I do, & has the gift of good playlists.

eight. She introduced me to Bones.

nine. Somehow I always end up telling her the things that I would never want anyone to know about me.  I think because she is so honest with me.  We seem to have always had a really transparent relationship.  The first time I remember realizing this, we sat on my kitchen counter folding laundry & talking until about 2 am.

ten. She knows my heart better than just about anyone.

eleven. She knows when I need encouragement without even knowing what's going on in my life that day.

twelve. She would eat Mexican food every single day & be happy about it.

thirteen. She understands my terminology & abbreviations: Mexico face, Mexico hair, PFC, ION, HIMYM, LCT, just one of those, airplane funny, nad, get outta my head, HM, etc.

fourteen. She taught me how to wear a scarf.  And my life has never been the same.

fifteen. I've seen her do a lot of things that she doesn't really like to do just so she can spend time with friends.  i.e., camping, hiking, rafting, etc.

sixteen. She's brave...but I don't think she knows it.

seventeen. She covers others in prayer & Scripture & believes in the outcomes.

eighteen. She understands the magnitude of a good sale.

nineteen. She doesn't make fun of my singing or dancing, two things that not many people at all are privy to.

twenty. She's not scared of tears.

twenty-one. I don't think she's ever gotten annoyed with the number of pictures I take.  At least not yet...

twenty-two. She truly wants to bring God glory with her whole life...marriage, job, worship, friendships, etc.

Happy Birthday, friend.  I love you so very much!

P.S. Cait, You know me.  All of these pictures are edited.  But one more so than others.  I'll give you a million dollars (or a strawberry limeade) if you can guess which one & why.

weekend recap: part 3

finally, Sunday morning I left Beth's early & came home in time for church.  after church, my dad's side of the family got together to celebrate my uncle's birthday (yesterday) & mine (today).  & somehow, I only took a few pictures & none are really blog-worthy.

after that we left to go to my other grandparents' to celebrate my birthday [again], as well as my grandmother's (last week).  again, no great pictures...I don't know what was with me these last few days.

when we got home, my parents & I played mexican train dominoes [the latest game obsession].  & we haven't finished the game yet, but I am winning by a landslide.

& this little guy enjoyed it, too.  :)

now today, on my actual birthday...I've swept the garage, painted a table, & sat around in my pajamas...a pretty boring day.  but...planning a big shopping trip for Saturday with my mom & grandmother.  Charming Charlie has been calling my name!

one of the highlights of my day so far: this sweet post from my Chloe friend.
