Finding myself...

I'm working on (actually just finished...hallelujah) a paper about Francine Rivers. Flipping through Redeeming Love to find the quotes I needed, I came across something interesting. At the beginning of each chapter, she put a quote or a Bible verse. This is the one I saw tonight that struck me:

"In the middle of the journey of our life, I came to myself in a dark wood." -Dante

First, I think it's important to point out that the life is OURS...not mine. The journey is always with God. Yet the finding, is singular...MYself. God is always the same. He is our constant. He knows who He is (& it's there for us to find), but we are the ones that have to find ourselves IN Him.

Secondly, "I came to myself in a dark wood." Not in the light of day. Not surrounded by people. "Alone" in the dark. Sometimes finding ourselves has to come in the tough situations when we truly rely on God. It is in the dark that we most clearly see his sovreignty and His unending love.
