Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way.
-Donald Miller
So, I've had Cait's copy of Blue Like Jazz on my shelf for...oh, about a year. I LOVE to read but never have time to read anything I want during school. Well, I decided I'm just going to have to try to change that. So last night I picked up the book. I've been wanting to read it since freshman year so...I'm glad I'm finally getting around to it.
If the few pages that I've read so far are any indication, I'm going to be friends with this book. The quote I put above is before the book actually starts...it's in the "Author's Note." But it really hit me.
...you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. When people look at me, what do they see that I love?
First and foremost, I hope that they see that I love my Savior. I try to live a life worthy of His sacrifice. That's something that I can never live up to, but I'm ok with trying to everyday.
I love serving others. Not just mission trips, though that's my favorite thing in the entire world. But little notes of encouragement, or just trying to keep up with what people have going on from day to day & letting them know that I care.
I love my family & my friends, but I think those are pretty obvious.
I love photography. Again, if you've ever met my facebook page (or me, for that matter), OBVIOUS. I love that looking through the lens of a camera is like looking at God. Sometimes you experience a moment that you just really want to share but telling the story doesn't do it justice...but a picture sometimes can. I love capturing love, compassion, laughter, etc. I love it when a picture tells a story. I love when it symbolizes something else. I'm getting a little carried away now, so I'll stop...you get the picture. Haha...picture.
I love time by myself. Don't get me wrong...I love being around people. But I also love time like this. Sitting in my bed surrounded by a book, my Bible, journal, iTunes, & my blog. Pretty perfect. I love time when I can sit in my room & play my guitar all by myself. I love a good bubble bath (especially when I'm in the middle of a good book).
I could go on & on. But what I'm really saying is...the lives we live should show what we love & I really like the way Donald Miller worded that.
