How can I keep
How can I keep from singing
My life flows on in endless song
Above the lamentation
I hear the sweet
The far off hill
That hails a new, a new creation
Through all the tumbled and the strife
I hear the music ringing
It finds an echo
In my soul
How can I keep from singing
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart
A fountain ever springing
All things are mine since I am His
How can I keep from singing
Since Christ is Lord
Of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing
This is one of my new favorite songs. Apparently it's been done before, but this version by SheDaisy is the first I've heard. I love that the lyrics draw attention to the fact that all that surrounds us is in constant praise. We think about this especially during the spring, when new life is present all around us. Spring is beautiful, and I love the symbol that it is of new creation. You just can't help but praise when you see God in every part of nature. But also in the winter when everything seems dead, God is very much alive and is visible. Especially now at Christmas. We see the best (& sadly, sometimes the worst) in people come out this time of year. For the most part, people seem to be a bit more giving, more patient, and more concerned with others. Yes, it's easy to get caught up in the rush of the holiday, but stories of Jesus' birth are present all around us, & it makes the chaos worth it. How can anyone keep from singing? His glory envelopes us.
