overshadowed

This time of year I like to read the Christmas story over & over...it just amazes me the way you can read parts of the Bible a million times & God still reveals something new to you each time.

Tonight I was reading the part when Gabriel comes & tells Mary that she's going to bear God's Son. One word stuck out to me.

Overshadow.

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, & the power of the Most High will overshadow you.

Luke 1:35

Yes, we know God is always with us. No, we will never fully comprehend that. But think about this. Overshadow. [I just realized that sometimes I just let words roll around in my brain & I tend to say them over & over...sorry, I'm kind of a word nerd.] Anyway, shadows. You can never get away from your shadow. But you don't always see it. Unless you're in the presence of a source of light that causes the shadow. And God is that source of light. Most people have probably thought about this before, but it just really struck me tonight.

It's so obvious that God put a lot of thought into the words He chose. Granted, this has been translated thousands of times, but still...the original versions show his holy diction even better. [Holy diction? Don't really know where that came from, but I like it.]

I love that, no matter where I go or what I do, I'm in the presence of Light, even on my darkest days, & I can live in the shadow of the Savior.
