When I began this Scripture memorization journey, I intended on having a post for each verse telling why I chose it. But then sometimes...it's just not something that can be put into words.
Today as I was choosing my fourth verse, I realized something. I couldn't put into words why I chose my third verse then, but I sure can now.
"Let me hear in the morning of Your steadfast love, for in You I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul." Psalm 143:9 [ESV]
I chose that verse on this day, right before I met with my friend & felt like I gained some life direction. Still not quite ready to share all of that, but know that these plans I'm making right now are not of me. They are the furthest thing from what I thought I wanted...yet, I'm really excited about them. God not only made me know the way I should go, but He gave me a desire to walk that path. I LOVE seeing how this verse is working in my life.
This also leads to my fourth verse:
"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21 [NIV]
As I make plans over the next few months, I can't hold too tightly to them. This is the path God has pointed me on for today. Just because He has us pursuing one path for a season, doesn't mean that path is forever. For today, I will walk the path He's shown me, but if that plan changes, I *will* remember that His purpose prevails, & His purpose is what I desire over every plan I make.
Good luck with Scripture memory! It's definitely really really hard, and something I've struggled with my whole life.

ReplyDeleteOh my, I LOVE that verse in Psalm 143:8!!! I already have my two for Feb. but that's definitely on my list for March..! :)
ReplyDeleteOh! He's been teaching this to me too lately..thanks so much for sharing the verses.
ReplyDeleteRight now its literally me learning that He has plans for my life...and He will show me in His timing. I don't know what He wants me to do and I want answers...but sometimes He asks us to just "be still" and trust Him.
Again, thanks for sharing!

Lindsey,
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog about a month ago while searching through Blogger and am totally awed by your love for our Lord and your constant faithfulness in Him. Your words are so inspiring and always speak to my heart. Continue to seek that path He has for you!

love this post.
ReplyDeleteI am so loving this blog...let's be friends indeed!
ReplyDeleteI never went to AWANA as a kid because I was so scared of memorizing verses; I still have trouble with songs and names, but recently I picked up the Topical Memory System and I think I like it. I've already memorized the first week's worth. Let's do it together, k?
I am doing the Siesta Scripture thing too! This is such a great verse I may snag it for the next one. I really appreciated you sharing you reasons for choosing it. I have lately been struggling with having patience and trust for God's plan. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post. (I found you through Jennifer's blog!)
